Why you should see a Weight Loss Specialist !!

Have you noticed the pounds creeping up on the scale, belt feeling a little tighter than normal? Has your primary care doctor uttered a word about your weight? Don’t be lulled into a false sense of security because your primary medical doctor or OB/Gyn has not mentioned your weight.

A recent study by the Mayo Clinic found that only 20 percent of obese patients are listed as such on their medical charts. A recent study from Johns Hopkins University shows that Physicians who are overweight or obese are less likely to discuss weight loss with obese patients. Once obesity has been accepted and acknowledged a crucial ripple effect occurs in terms of overall health care. Patients who were diagnosed as obese in the Mayo Clinic study were twice as likely to set diet or exercise goals.

Why do physicians shy away from the topic of obesity? Many think it is a lost cause, yet they are likely seeing up to 30 patients per day, at least a third of whom are overweight or obese. And if they’re obese themselves, then they may be less confident about dispensing weight-loss advice.

Is your doctor reluctant to discuss the topic? If the answer is yes, its time to call our office.
